Software / Electronics Communications Infrastructure Engineer
Based in Crawley, this is an exciting role with a recognised and innovative world leader A rapidly growing company, they now seek an experienced Communications Infrastructure Engineer to join the team - as they progress from initial prototypes / beta test to formally released products. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within a dynamic and supportive culture.
This role is particularly suited to candidates who can offer experience of middleware development and system integration within a telecoms or set-top-box environment.
In this key role you will be responsible for:
- Agreeing the requirements for the design, implementation and support of the communications infrastructure surrounding their innovative products, including: communications over IP; performance data retrieval; communications with industry standard in-home embedded electronics devices.
- Ensuring that communications interfaces meet UK and European standards, and influencing the development of these standards where possible This includes RF standards for CE marking as well as communications standards to home networks and smart meters.
- The overall definition and implementation of remote access / diagnostic communication interfaces, including live data access and remote re-flashing.
- The specification / implementation of data capture, reduction and presentation.
- External communications interfaces.
- Specifying and procuring remote logging and instrumentation equipment.
- Supporting field trials to ensure data quality.
In addition to an appropriate engineering degree, you should have proven experience of defining and implementing communications protocols; experience of data reduction for communication from many points over a public network and experience of data collation and presentation. You should also have experience of specifying and/or implementing embedded software systems or sub-systems.
Any exposure to the following technologies would be particularly beneficial:
- Short range RF, mesh networks, point to point serial comms
- Implementing low cost RF solutions (e g Zigbee)
- Bus networks / Controller Area Network (CAN)
- Diagnostics protocols (e g KWP2000, CCP, Smart Appliances)
