Summary: 1st, 2.1 and A’s & B’s minimum at A level for Software Database Development, London, to £highly competitive superb benefits.

This growing R&D company specialises in leading edge algorithmic software development for finance. Small, high-quality development teams work closely with quant researchers, IT infrastructure, operations staff and business management to enhance the algorithmic trading platform and associated applications. These include tools for research, data management, simulation & back-testing, counterparty communication and monitoring.

They now seek an experienced Software Developer with significant database design and development experience. They build and maintain several large databases for comprehensive, yet complicated, datasets; well beyond average industry needs. This is primarily achieved with a combination of high-grade software skills and database cunning. They are interested in high-calibre software developers with proven experience of the software development cycle and top-notch software skills, who also have a strong background and/or interest in data modelling and theory, e.g. someone whose university data theory courses captured their imagination and shaped their career, or someone who knows, and is enthusiastic about the nitty-gritty of relational data theory and specifics of RDBMS use.

Essentially they seek a bright spark, someone who has direct, coal-face, experience with software development and its associated problem-solving, and who also delights in the process and everything technological. In this case, they need someone who has hands-on experience building, populating and optimising large datasets and databases, with an interest and enthusiasm in the whole process, from theory through to the fine detail of commercial application. Developers who have dealt with colossal non-financial datasets (e.g. large scientific projects etc; large dataset informational services.)

With excellent academics, as above, in Computer Science or similar, you must have extensive ability to develop high quality software, good working knowledge of SQL. Understanding and experience of a database programming language (Transact-SQL, or maybe PL/SQL on Oracle) is essential – including an appreciation for its limitations and appropriate uses. Experience of C#/.Net; or at least some familiarity with C#/.Net and a background in Java or C++. Appreciation of good software architecture and core algorithms & data structures.

Keywords: 2.1, 1st, SQL, RDBMS, C#, .Net, C++, Java, London, Finance.

Please note: even if you don't have exactly the background indicated, do contact us now if this type of job is of interest - we may well have similar opportunities that you would be suited to. And of course, we always get your permission before submitting your CV to a company.

Summary: C#, Web Development, Scripting & SQL skills needed for top software trading company, London, to £highly competitive + superb benefits.

This innovative, established financial software house seeks an enthusiastic, personable and pragmatic developer to join a group responsible for improving the operational efficiency of many aspects of the firm including the trading platforms. This will be achieved by analysing the current setup and developing applications to simplify the day-to-day running of these systems. These improvements will include writing applications to manage configuration, to simplify new rollouts and to extract business logic and management information from existing systems. The role will involve working closely with all areas of the business, particularly with other development groups.

You must be a highly innovative software who can take data from numerous sources and present it in an interface that can be used right across the business. You must also have good scripting skills and an excellent knowledge of SQL so that data held in various formats can be pulled together. You must also have a desire to challenge existing practices, if your proposals would improve the current method of working.

With at least a 2.1 Hons in Computer Science (plus at least A’s & B’s at A level) you must have proven ability to develop high quality software with Web programming and C# skills, excellent scripting skills (Python, Perl or similar), Relational Database skills (SQL Server ideally), and an appreciation of good software architecture, core algorithms and data structures.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join this highly innovative company at the leading edge of financial trading software.

Keywords: London, 2.1, 1st, PhD, C#, Web Development, Python, Perl, Scripting, SQL, Finance.

Please note: even if you don't have exactly the background indicated, do contact us now if this type of job is of interest - we may well have similar opportunities that you would be suited to. And of course, we always get your permission before submitting your CV to a company.

Summary: Financial software house recruiting! Junior Systems Administrator, Windows XP/2003 Server, London, to £38k. You must have at least a 2.1 (Hons) degree.

This growing company uses technology as its core strength. The technical challenges and breadth of technology exposure will be attractive to candidates wishing to be part of a dynamic team that will present them with a stimulating environment. The Systems team is growing and the company wishes to find an outstanding individual who can contribute to this team. There are a broad range of technologies and systems in use, and the team supports an advanced, high-pressure environment.

The team is notionally split into helpdesk and engineering sub-teams, but this is not run along ‘big company’ lines. They are small enough that the helpdesk team is not simply a front-line call logging unit, but is intimately involved in providing support for all aspects of the company’s systems. All members of the team have an agreed amount of time to spend on project work and training. From day 1 you will be dealing with a huge range of technology, from CRM systems to market data feeds, from Microsoft Exchange server to desktop PC deployments, from security issues to helping setup new offices, from sourcing new equipment to coming up with novel ways of disposing of old assets, from writing Perl scripts to trying to understand bastion hosts at the border of the network, from dealing with problems on automated trading systems to ensuring viable backups and continuity plans are in place.

This is very much a hands-on technical role, and provides an excellent learning experience for someone wanting to move further into the field of systems administration. You will have access to work class senior team members, who will be able to help with advice, troubleshooting, training and project work. The company has very few ‘users’ relative to normal deployments – there is much more technology than there are people. This means the learning opportunities are huge. This role will suit someone who has a real interest in infrastructure, and a demonstrable aptitude for applying computing concepts and your skills to real problems.

Working hours are based on a shift rotation. The early shift runs from 0700-1530, the late shift runs from 1030-1900, with the project/middle shift being during normal office hours.

With good A level grades, a 2.1 Hons degree or higher from a good university you will have drive and energy and preferably some experience of working within a similar role – or you may possibly be a very bright recent Computer Science graduate. Financial institution experience in a trading environment is preferable. Experience of Windows XP desktop and Windows 2003 Server, standard market data applications, Linux/Solaris, networking and major desktop applications will all be of benefit.

Salary and compensation package will depend on experience and the skills you have to offer but will be in line with expectations at a top-flight financial institution.

Keywords: 2.1, 1st, London, Systems Admin, XP, Windows 2003 server.
