They are not expecting the person they hire to be the “finished article”, but they someone who can ask the right question, is keen to learn and can demonstrate a strong attention-to-detail.
- Strong academic pedigree (A/A* at A-levels in maths and science, or 2 sciences; and a 1st / 2.1 degree in a traditional STEM subject (maths, physics, chemistry, computer science, biology) from a Russell Group university. (1st Class humanity graduates who have completed a Masters conversion in computer science will also be considered – they must have A/A* grade maths or a science subject at A-levels.)
- Strong attention to details. Must enjoy getting things right-first-time. This is a software engineering role not a programming role – the difference is in thinking about problems from the beginning rather than creating work-arounds as problems arise.
- Any exposure to Jenkins, Git, or Jira would be desirable.
The team use an Agile approach to their software projects, including 2 week sprints and stand-up meetings. They are keen that all participants can present their ideas and communicate well is this team.
