Director of Software Engineering (24910)
This innovative Cambridge robotics startup is developing rugged, precision semi-autonomous robots for use in the UK and abroad. They are well funded and the founders have a good pedigree in the Cambridge tech scene.
They are seeking an exceptional, highly involved and still “hands on” candidate who has the qualities of both an inwardly-facing VP Engineering and a forward-looking CTO. You will have an exemplary track record of positions at this level, working in embedded software-plus-hardware startups, and specifically in rapidly changing markets.
A key facet is that you will have facilitated the evolution of very adaptable product lines, and rapid integration of new technologies to meet new needs, as opportunities arise to adapt the company’s technology to service new client bases. Experience with robotic systems, embedded ARM, computer vision, image processing, machine learning and AI is heavily favoured, to the extent that two or more of these is likely required. You will also be a skilled developer with current skills in C / C++ (11 onwards) and ideally C#.
The company has a quite “flat” structure and titular responsibilities are more indicative of with whom the buck stops rather than who has absolute authority in an area. You will be someone who can work closely and openly with developers of all experience levels as well as with electronics engineers, company founders and clients.
In addition to the above requirements, candidates need a top degree in computing (or a related subject) and strong A-level grades, and full permission to live and work in the UK without time limit, restriction or sponsorship.
Since the company is at a critical stage of their evolution, only the top few candidates can be considered for this role in the near term.
