Work with inventors to document patents and IP

This consultancy-style ideas company works with industrial partners to create additional value based on solid technical and scientific understanding. Their data-driven “simple ideas” enable disruptive innovations, and have led to defining products and services at global technology brands.

As the company grows, they are looking for a dedicated Patent / IP Writer to join them. In this role, you would work closely with inventors, understanding the mechanisms behind the technology / science and translate that into technical patent / IP documents.

Requirements:

  • Understanding the technology / science is important, so degree qualifications in Engineering or Physics are expected. A minor in writing (could include A-level English) would be highly desirable.
  • Strong technical writing and science communication experience including specific experience with patents / IP documentation.
  • Broad knowledge, understanding and interest of technology and science – ideally will be a subscriber to technology journals and well-read in several modern technology stacks.
  • Strong appreciation of working closely with clients – able to communicate at different levels (both technical and non-technical audiences).

You may at this time work full-time in a similar role; or be an engineer or scientist with some technical patent writing experience, but you’ll be keen to move away from the hands-on work, and go towards the ideas and documentation side.

The role is based predominately at their Cambridge office, although could occasionally spend time at their London or European locations. Further benefits include flexible working arrangements, opportunities to publish papers, attending conferences, as well as a competitive remunerations package.
