Do you seek an intellectually stimulating and challenging mathematical role where you can make good use of your numerical / algebraic skills for a practical real world application? This exciting opportunity calls for a bright, ambitious candidate who can offer an impressive academic record and solid mathematical / algebraic skills backed, ideally, by a very good knowledge of electronics at the digital logic / register manipulation / binary data level.

You will join a team who focus on all aspects of mathematical hardware design, working within a small self-contained division of a large well-respected blue-chip company. The role offers challenging and demanding mathematical work and a relaxed working environment, with a top international technology company at their site in Cambridge.

The role will include: research into advanced techniques for implementing a wide range of numerical hardware; the design and implementation of optimised numerical RTL (previous knowledge of RTL is an obvious advantage but not a pre-requisite); research into / full verification on numerical designs combining formal & simulation techniques.

In addition to a solid record of academic achievement (top degree from a top university – ideally a relevant numerically focused PhD in maths / electronics or a closely related area) you should have proven numerical algebra / logic skills. Exposure to areas such as floating point arithmetic, rounding errors, digital logic, optimisation, numerical RTL, Verilog, VHDL, HDL would be very relevant. Similarly, any exposure to software development using languages such as C++ would also be valuable.

This is a great company with outstanding potential. The mathematical hardware design group will ultimately be based in the company’s Cambridge office, although team members could initially be UK home based, working remotely and liaising with offices all over the world.
