machine learning, ML, quant, finance, Bayesian, neural network, London, PhD

This company is a market leader in applying the newest ML and mathematical techniques to commercially successful products used in the finance industry. They maintain their competitive advantage by continually seeking out the best talent, researching and adopting the newest tools and techniques, and providing a robust support and maintenance ‘back-end’ team that allows their ‘quant’ team to focus solely on research and analysis.

They are looking for candidates with experience in Machine Learning, and perhaps related technologies, as they expand their teams to keep up with demand. Successful candidates will enjoy a standout remuneration package with plenty of perks and benefits, working in a friendly but ambitious team.

Your CV will need to show:

  • a stellar academic profile, with a Master’s (more usually a PhD) degree in machine learning from a top-ranking university – related numerate subjects may be considered, top A-levels are a must;
  • an excellent understanding of the theories of Machine Learning, coupled with practical experience implementing these methods to real-world problems;
  • an intuitive knowledge of the underlying mathematics behind ML theories – you’ll be working with large and noisy data sets, so understanding where things can go wrong is crucial;
  • a deep familiarity with specific aspects of ML, such as neural networks, Bayesian methods, approximate inference, etc. – there is no set list, but you can’t just be a generalist.

On top of this, any experience with either OO or functional programming, and relevant hobby interests would be of interest. You may be a regular contributor to data science competitions or have played around with personal ML projects – the more evidence you show of a passion for Machine Learning, the more your application will stand out.

Based in Central London, this company is near to multiple train stations and tube lines, making commuting in from most locations easy. With relaxed working hours, an informal dress code, and freedom to explore and research your own interests to come up with possible leads, this is a unique opportunity that only the best will be able to contribute to.
