Their Maths Group is a small, high-powered team of mathematicians, engineers and physical scientists with a range of research backgrounds. Their complementary skills are fundamental to our client's software development, enabling them to develop truly innovative solutions from the ground up, with efficient numerical methods based on excellent analytical foundations.
Due to expansion, they are seeking a talented individual to join the group. You'll have a PhD in applied mathematics, operations research, industrial engineering, computer science or similar field with a strong interest in optimisation-based applications. You will be joining a team that is responsible for development of core data-providing components and calculation engines, from specification and design through to integration with in-house desktop and web-browser user interfaces.
You will work as a developer, designing and implementing solutions to modelling and optimisation problems. This can include customer-facing work in design and specification, as well as involvement in business consulting and on-going support.
Clearly, you will need strong mathematical programming and software development skills. Technical communication abilities are also essential as you must be able to understand client business processes quickly and explain clearly how our mathematical models work.
Note that this role is open to fresh PhD graduates as well as applicants with significant commercial experience.
You can demonstrate strong programming ability, ideally in C++ in a Windows environment, although experience of a different object-oriented language will not rule you out.
You'll need to have state of the art knowledge of and experience in the application of advanced optimisation techniques, including Linear, Nonlinear and Mixed Integer Programming. Technical communication abilities are also essential as you must be able to understand client business processes quickly and explain clearly how the mathematical models work.
