Summary: C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server, Norwich, aviation, software as a service, client/server, Microsoft, £competitive + benefits.

Are you a talented creator of business software, something of a Microsoft specialist, looking to develop real software in East Anglia?

Located near the beautiful city of Norwich, our client is a leading provider of software as a service to the aviation industry. Due to high demand for their services they are looking to increment the number of quality developers on the team (in a thread safe fashion, lockless or otherwise).

You will have a degree in computer science or a relevant subject from an established UK university - which not only boosted your geek credentials, but taught you a thing or two about database design and software architecture. You'll also doubtless have picked up numerous exciting facts about tuples, finite state automata and other compsci topics - whether or not you enjoyed the theory, you'll be able to explain their practical applications on the back of an envelope, and you'll rely on them to help you develop high quality code for real businesses.

This won't be your first job, as you'll have gained a smattering of commercial experience applying C# to business logic, ASP.NET to front end web development, and designing and developing databases using SQL Server. You'll be able to weave them together to create new products, and you'll be equally happy casting a critical eye over existing code and databases and working out how to improve them.

You'll be someone who can tell inheritance from overloading and polymorphism from abstraction. You can tell an entity from an object, and ER modelling from OO A&D. You can tell a stored procedure from a trigger and a clustered from a non-clustered index. You can left join, right join, inner join and outer join, implicitly or otherwise. You can find performance bottlenecks in real systems, whether that means firing up a profiler or a query analyser or instrumenting the code by hand. And what's more you'll love doing it and be good at it, both by yourself and as part of a team of like minded individuals.

You'll be ready to fight your corner in the interests of creating good software, but you'll also be ready to be humbled by others' good ideas and snap them up and make them work. And you can easily move between discussion, maintenance and green field development without a break in your stride.

If all this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you - our client needs real programmers and good software doesn't build itself.

Our client is an established, growing company providing innovative software solutions to one of the biggest global industry sectors. And it's a great place to work!

Their web software tools play a business critical role in the selection and purchasing processes of major companies. These global implementations span hundreds of users across each organisation, allowing the client company to minimise implementation costs while offering highly granular, central control over access to data and services.

These websites and web services allow complex mathematical queries and operations to be carried out against a live, central database. Despite the fact that most of these activities are computationally demanding, the tools must be robust to very high peak usage. This requires careful optimisation of database queries, combined with advanced caching and indexing technologies.

In addition, despite their rich interface, our client’s web tools must remain responsive even over low-bandwidth and high-latency networks. This is achieved through a combination of efficient page design with technologies such as page compression and chunked responses.

Their Web Solutions Group is responsible for the design and development of all web tools, ranging from corporate intranet implementations through to the sites maintained on their own servers. Development work spans all tiers of the application:

database design and implementation (including use of ORM technologies)

C# middleware modules, consuming and exposing web services using WCF

ASP.NET MVC web server components

JavaScript-based client-side user interface development (including use of jQuery and in-house JavaScript libraries where needed).

Due to expansion, our client is seeking a degree-qualified, bright candidate with experience of .NET programming and developing AJAX based websites.

Experience of ASP.NET MVC would be useful. Most importantly, you'll be a team player with a strong engineering, scientific or mathematical background and good communications skills, able to thrive in a small company environment.

A range of experience from recent graduate will be considered.

Our client offers a relaxed yet professional and supportive work environment, and good benefits, helping to make this an excellent opportunity to join an industry leader and be part of their success.

Keywords: web development, web developer, web software, database design, databases, ORM, C#, web services, WCF, ASP.NET MVC, web server, JavaScript, jQuery, Cambridge.

They're well established in Epsom, highly successful, and maintain a "small company" feel whilst having the backing of an international organisation with offices around the UK and the rest of the world.

They're seeking expert software engineers to work on their latest line of desktop and distributed products. You'll have significant experience developing complex software products, backed by a good degree in computer science, maths, physics, engineering or a relevant subject from a top university. You’ll have taken an active role in every part of the software development life cycle on multiple products, from conception through to requirements capture, analysis, design, implementation, testing and deployment.

Summary: C++ and C# Software Developer, MFC, WPF, Cambridge, to c£35k + benefits.

This small, innovative Cambridge company develops cutting edge software and hardware used in top end digital printing applications. They're seeking a C++ and C# Software Developer to join their growing development team, working on both control systems and user interfaces for cutting edge printing devices.

With a strong degree (at least a 2.1 Hons) in Computer Science you'll have experience in C++ and C# software development, ideally including MFC and/or WPF user interface development. If you have both MFC and WPF experience, that's definitely a bonus. Exposure to multi-threading is certainly beneficial.

This role would suit an up and coming developer who has already gained some C++ and C# software development experience in a commercial setting, and so has an appreciation of coding styles and high level object-oriented design skills, as well as good general software development techniques including multi-threading. Since you'll have been developing C++ and C# code on Windows, you'll have knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio.

You won't be working in isolation, since as well as working as part of a team of experienced C++ and C# developers, you'll have the chance to talk directly with customers through email, by phone and face to face, to develop Windows software which really meets their needs. To take best advantage of this you'll need to be able to travel within the UK and overseas for short trips, and you'll also need a full UK driving licence.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a C++ and C# Software Developer with MFC and/or WPF skills to join a growing team working on leading edge software.

Summary: Java developer, green technologies, databases an advantage, Cambridge or Essex, to £competitive + benefits.

Are you a smart Java developer looking for a new challenge? Would you like to work with a young green tech company, well funded and with ambitious plans for the future?

Our client develop some smart hardware and accompanying software to help people and companies take control of their driving habits, either personal or commercial. In this time of rising fuel prices, "how is my driving?" is an ever more relevant question - if you're treating your vehicle well and driving economically, not only is it safer but far more economical, both in terms of petrol and insurance, especially given that many people's insurance premiums are going up as providers are obliged to treat everyone more equally.

Our client's hardware plugs right into vehicle systems and can monitor all kinds of neat stuff about the way the vehicle is running. This data is then processed using smart Java tools, and can be made available for either immediate reference to the driver, or to examine back at base (or at home) later on.

They're looking for good Java developers as they're expanding their Cambridge team; they also have an office in Essex if that's more convenient, and you're welcome to work from either. You'll need a good degree in computing, maths, engineering or a related subject, and several years solid commercial Java development experience. If you've got good database skills, that's a plus.

They're a young company formed by smart people, and their products can make a real difference both to people's lives and to the environment. They take good care of their staff, with sensible working hours, good benefits and relaxed, easy going social events for those who are interested - plus free pizza for lunch on Fridays.

This is an ideal opportunity for a skilled Java developer to make a difference. We'd love to hear from you.
