An opportunity to innovate at a top Cambridge company

One of Cambridge’s success stories has opportunities for bright people with backgrounds in physics or electronics. They are seeking Research Engineers who would be responsible for exploring the newest discoveries and techniques in various areas of electronics, optics, engineering and software.

Possibly starting your research by looking through academic papers, you will use your engineering experience to judge the relevance and potential of new technologies to enhance the company’s already successful products. You will also develop new innovations, designing and building proof of concept demonstrators and reporting on your findings. Your work will lead to the next wave of cutting-edge products for our client and if successful, would eventually be transferred to full-scale production.

Ideally, the Research Engineer will be curious, creative and analytical, someone who is often an early adopter of new tech and who is also an excellent communicator. They will be as happy looking through academic papers as they will be in a lab, building prototypes for themselves.

This role is open to people who have recently graduated, up to engineers with five (or more) years of commercial experience.

The Research Engineer will need to have:

  • A good technical degree from a well-respected university (PhDs welcome too)

They will also need experience of a number of the following skills:

  • Software (Python / C++ / MATLAB)
  • Electronics (FPGA)
  • Optics
  • Augmented reality, AI or virtual reality
  • Mechanical design / CAD (Solidworks)

Full permission to live and work in the UK without time limit, restriction or sponsorship will also be required.

Keywords: Research, mechanical design, CAD, optics, electronics, Python, C++, MATLAB
