Product management for scientific software

If you’re a product manager or interested developer, consider this client-oriented role in scientific software. Used by major companies (and even actual rocket scientists), it has applications from Formula One to space exploration and self-driving cars. They’re a friendly company with university roots, in the heart of Cambridge, using the latest tech and practising pragmatic Agile methods.

You’ll take charge of the commercial success and future growth of a major product. You’ll work closely with the company’s engineering clients and partners, as well as with the software development team, your colleagues in product management, and sales, marketing and deployment teams. You’ll develop detailed strategy and plans, capture client requirements, build on partnerships and act as Product Owner (in Scrum terms) to the development team.

You’ll bring:

  • Several years’ commercial product management experience for software products, or a software development background, commercial and client focus and an interest in product management
  • An understanding of engineering, especially materials, which could be through academic studies of mechanical engineering or materials science, or equally from working in an engineering company where materials selection was a facet of your work
  • A good degree in a technical subject from a well-ranked university, and strong A-levels

You’ll be highly organised and driven, able to take a strategic view, and happy to balance potentially conflicting commercial and technical constraints to achieve a mutually satisfactory outcome. The role will involve some expenses paid travel to clients and conferences.

This is a full time, permanent position in a company with a good culture and a lasting track record. As well as a competitive salary, they offer a comprehensive benefits package including private medical care, bonuses, and an excellent pension.

Teams sit together with pleasant, expansive spaces to both meet and relax, and separate meeting rooms for extended discussions. The atmosphere is pleasing, cordial and conversational without being intrusive. A powerful PC, multiple monitors, and the latest software tools are standard. Parking is on-site, and they are a short walk from a nearby railway station, and are in easy cycling distance for Cambridge residents.
