Interviewing now for an immediate start

This is a terrific opportunity to start your career at a specialist technical consultancy. They are looking for graduates, possibly with some commercial experience in software development, to join their growing business on the outskirts of London.

They are primarily looking for software development experience with C/C++ or Java, as you would be responsible for developing novel signal and image processing applications in C/C++, as well as developing user interfaces in Java. As it is a client facing position, sometimes providing support and training to their customers on how to get the best from the software, excellent communication skills and knowledge of your field will be paramount.

The software engineer will be self-motivated and capable of working independently as they will be given responsibility early on. However, the team does put a lot of effort into supporting and developing their consultants across all levels of the design process. They are encouraged to work on all aspects of a project (both software and hardware), from low-level FPGA/ASIC/embedded or PCB design, through to control/interface elements in C++ or Java, and some GUI work with HTML/JavaScript.

The firm works mainly on defence or government contracts, and therefore can only accept UK residents/nationals able to obtain a high level of security clearance; therefore we will only be able to consider candidates with UK citizenship, who have predominately lived in the UK for the last ten years.

You will be expected to have the following skills and experience for this role:

  • a PhD and /or a good (1st/2.1) undergraduate degree from a top Russell Group university in a numerate discipline, backed-up by a strong academic background including A*s and As in A level Maths and Physics;
  • software development experience, preferably in C/C++ or Java;
  • excellent verbal and written presentation skills.

This client particularly likes to see evidence of relevant hobby projects that show your innate curiosity and understanding of the wider subject. This may include a well populated github page or hardware projects that involve embedded programming.
