Developing microfluidics for lab-on-chip technologies

Based in their labs and offices in Cambridge, this start-up technology company is growing after securing further investment. They are led by industry veterans who plan to deliver an innovative scientific platform to be used in biotech, healthcare and drug design applications.

As they expand their technical team, they seek a PhD level Physicist Engineer to work on microfluidics and associated technologies including microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), lab-on-chip, optics and cell biology.

Requirements:

  • Degree in physics, mechanical engineering, electronics, systems engineering (or similar) followed by a PhD.
  • Doctorate or post-doctorate project experience working on microfluidic technologies within instrumentation development (ideally for biological applications).
  • Exposure to lab-on-chip, MEMS, photolithography, biochips or optics would be desirable.
  • Experience with tissue culture processes would be beneficial.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Physicist Engineer, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of life scientists, physicists, engineers and software developers. Project work is conducted in COVID-19 secure labs, whilst analysis and reports can be completed at home.

Interested applicants should be immediately available or have a short notice (ideally 1-2 months). PhDs should be almost finishing their thesis write-ups or waiting for vivas. Preference is for candidates based in the UK or who can relocate to the UK at their own expense - company sponsorship is possible for candidates who closely match the brief.
