Developing mathematical modelling software in Java

This job calls for a rare combination of academic excellence in mathematics or mathematical modelling coupled with industrial-strength Java coding skills.

You would be joining a small but highly successful and expanding company based in Central London. Their unique software tools solve intricate and intractable real-world problems, providing a high value service within an important industrial sector.

The company’s software tools are based upon highly mathematical algorithms, so you will need the ability to fully understand these, and implement them in well-designed, computationally efficient, and robust Java code.

The codebase is written principally in Java and Spring Boot, and is split between server and desktop applications. Some DevOps work will also be involved but prior DevOps experience is not mandated.

Essential skills and attributes:

  • An excellent academic background with a 1st or 2.1 STEM degree from a very highly ranked university (Russel Group or equivalent) as well as a PhD in a highly mathematical research area.
  • Demonstrably strong coding skills in Java including an in-depth understanding of how the language works at the low level and its implications for code efficiency.
  • A thorough grasp of software engineering best practice
  • This is a small company, and cannot offer sponsorship, so you will need full existing right to work in the UK

The company are based in a pleasant Central London location within easy reach of transport hubs and excellent amenities. Work would be remote in the short term, but, combined with periodic office visits, may also be possible once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
