Self-starter who enjoys the outdoors for a mechatronics and software test role

This position would be perfect for someone who doesn’t want to be limited to working in a lab or be stuck at a desk. This test engineering position requires a background in robotics or mechatronics and “hands-on” engineering combined with enthusiasm and the ability to assess and trouble-shoot technical issues.

Our client is an exciting start-up, based in the Cambridgeshire area who are developing robotics for the agricultural industry. The Field Trial Test Engineer will be responsible for putting their robust development machines through their paces in the lab and, critically, in the field. You will be testing its hardware and software so knowledge and experience of robotics, mechanics and software would be useful. You will gain the chance to learn about image analysis based on machine learning techniques and how to design machinery to be robust in all weathers.

As a Field Trial Test Engineer, it would be your responsibility to test and validate new hardware and software developments, analysing data to produce a clear understanding of the performance and championing any issues to the team or fixing issues on site if necessary. You will play an important role in improving both the design and use of their state-of-the-art machines.

The following will be necessary for this role:

  • A good degree in engineering combined with enthusiasm for hands-on work and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to identify and carry out appropriate tests on hardware and software, analyse the data and communicate your findings quickly and effectively to the rest of the development team to drive change and improvements.
  • This role will involve you transporting development machines to trial sites and so a full clean UK driving licence will be required.
  • Full right to work in the UK without time limit or sponsorship will also be required.

This position is open to all confident engineers, whether they have recently finished their academic career or are more commercially experienced.
