Mission critical robotics, cloud compute, analysis, client-facing troubleshooter

Are you looking to make use of your computing background, but not as a coder? Perhaps you have software skills, like an intellectual challenge, but don’t want to be “turning the handle” on line of business software...

This top Cambridge company produce sensor-laden smart devices and powerful supporting software linked to the cloud. Together these keep a watchful eye on high-tech production lines around the globe. In this key role you will offer consultancy and advice to clients, and troubleshoot mission critical software and hardware deployments.

You will bring a software professional's understanding of relevant technologies, which may include:

  • Distributed systems including Linux and/or Windows Server environments
  • Networking, managed switches, DHCP, DNS and HTTP
  • Security protocols and architectures
  • Cloud-based approaches such as AWS, elastic computing, virtualisation (cloud training is available)

This is a client-facing role and can be fast paced. Your clear thinking, calm and intellect will be put to good use, as will be your ability to think laterally, remain positive, prioritise, and cultivate good working relationships with other experts.

If you have scripting or even deeper coding knowledge, that would be advantageous – but is not required. To meet academic requirements, you will hold a good degree in a physical science or engineering subject from a top university, and strong A-level grades.

The role is Cambridge-based with a good hybrid working options for those who prefer to work from home 2-3 days per week. Clients are global, so from time to time you will need to speak urgently with engineers in Asia and the Americas allowing for the time zone differences. Candidates who enjoy travel will appreciate the occasional expenses-paid trips to high-tech centres around the world.
