Senior Experimental Scientist - Shock Physics (27042)

Oxfordshire
to £65,000 plus benefits
Filled

Join a team taking a bold approach to a transformational technology.

This is an opportunity for a Senior Experimental Scientist to join a motivated team with massive potential to create lasting benefits to society.

With the chance to work on experiments to optimise, diagnose and investigate phenomena involved in shock physics, you would be developing new diagnostics and techniques in a state-of-the-art facility based in Oxfordshire. Working closely with colleagues skilled in simulations and theory, you would be investigating properties such as shape, profile temperature and pressure of shock waves. This will involve practical work as well as working with and refining simulations. Previous experience working with regimes involving strong shocks will be needed and knowledge of developing synthetic diagnostics will be particularly useful.

The team is highly motivated, skilled and supportive. They seek a Senior Experimental Scientist that will bring a similar approach to their work, as well as expertise in the field of physical shock science.

You will need:

  • PhD in Physics, Engineering or similar discipline, backed by a good technical degree (2.1 or above) from a well-respected university.
  • Good knowledge of shock physics theory and skills in relevant diagnostic methods, such as ultra-high speed imaging, radiography, diffraction and spectroscopy.
  • Experience working in similar experimental fields involving strong shocks and excellent awareness of relevant health and safety issues.
  • Full right to work in the UK without time limit or sponsorship.

The generous remuneration package would include: a share options scheme; enhanced pension, private health insurance, flexible working hours, as well as enhanced maternal / paternal and sick leave.

Key words: Oxfordshire, Physics, Experimental Science, Shock Physics, Simulations, Ultra High Speed Imaging, Senior Scientist.
