Electromagnetics Physicist (27126)

Cambridge / Hybrid
£30,000 to £45,000 DoE + Benefits

Technical, client-facing role involving computational modelling

This Cambridge based technical team provide expertise around different simulation modelling for industrial and academic groups. They use their backgrounds in physics (including optics, fluid flow, heat transfer) and engineering (including structural mechanics, chemical engineering, acoustics) to help develop models which accelerates prototype and product development.

The team are looking to recruit someone to become an electromagnetics specialist and will consider Master’s and PhD holders for the role (candidate’s with relevant industry experience will also be considered). In this position, the Electromagnetics Physicist will use their knowledge around electromagnets and permanent magnets (including capacitance, resistance and induction) within computational simulation modelling. This will include leading workshops and training sessions, technical presentations and support commercial activities. Fundamental knowledge is important, as specific applied modelling will be taught within the role if required.

Requirements:

  • Strong maths and physics background including top grades at A-level / IB and degree (2.1 or better). Master’s or PhD will involve substantial project experience around electromagnetics modelling.
  • Excellent fundamental understanding around electromagnetic principles. Ideally, this can be demonstrated through teaching or tutoring of university-level students.
  • Experience with computational simulation / modelling tools (MATLAB, COMSOL, Octave).
  • Good communication skills (this is a client-facing role, and so being comfortable presenting and discussing technical details is important).
  • Able to travel occasionally (up to 2-4 days per month, typically within the UK, but possibly in Europe).

The role would be based at their Cambridge offices. Hybrid working is possible after the first month (possibly up to 3 days per week working from home). Compensation on offer is competitive and includes a range of benefits. Interested applicants do need to have unrestricted rights to work in the UK. Graduate visa holders or those requiring sponsorship will not be considered.
