Optics Physicist - Vision Systems (27627)
Based onsite at their offices and workshop, this defence tech start-up is developing AI integrated optical vision systems. They are currently recruiting for their computer vision projects and look to hire an Optical Physicist. In this hands-on position, you will work within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to designs and modelling of optical systems as well as develop innovative optical solutions for monitoring, tracking and computer vision applications in VIS, NIR and FIR. This will encompass prototype builds; systems integration of optical sensors and electro-optical systems, mirrors and assemblies; and systematic testing and validation.
Requirements:
- Strong academic background. 1st / 2.1 in physics with a specialisation in optics. This should include a Master’s or PhD project on optical system development (ideally in electro-optics).
- Excellent understanding of the fundamentals around optical design principles including lens design and ray tracing. (If you have relevant experience through work internships or work placements, this experience will also be considered.)
- Demonstrable experience with opto-mechanics, image processing and optical test methodologies.
- Any exposure to laser systems or infrared optics would be desirable.
Due to the defence applications of the work, interested candidates must be eligible for UK security clearance (which includes living in the UK for the past 5 years).
This position is based fully onsite, where you would work alongside technical experts in their fields.
