Firmware Team Lead (25642)

Cambridge, initially remote
to £100,000 package DoE

Hey there! This is just one of many top career opportunities ECM can suggest — if this job isn't right for you, let us do the hard work! Tell us what you're looking for and we'll start searching for you. We promise to treat your CV as strictly confidential.

Leading the development of embedded firmware for next generation hardware

Join and lead a respected team of a dozen senior engineers for top-of-the-line hardware, securely driving dynamic and hardware-accelerated content. This role features leadership, hands-on development and project management.

You'll be practical, approachable and ready to earn the team's respect as a fellow engineer. You'll have sufficient technical “gravitas” to make your role as lead an intuitive choice. Naturally, your experience will include significant commercial embedded / firmware development, and evidence of your leadership ability.

Leadership duties will include line management, technical authority and ideally project planning. Your time will be divided between these and hands-on contributions to their technology stack; a fairly even split can be anticipated. This is not a purely managerial role, which would not suit the team.

Whilst remote working may be in place initially, you will later work in the office in Cambridge. Full UK work permission is required, without time limit, restriction or sponsorship. Your CV will show your good relevant technical degree (or exemplary experience).

The platform is embedded Linux and C++. Knowledge of modern JavaScript is helpful, but not essential. There is a significant base of automated unit and system tests in place. A certain “agility” is helpful, as development is phased and regular retrospectives are conducted. A Scrum Master’s skills can be put to good use. Knowledge of embedded graphics hardware / firmware is also beneficial but not required.

You'll be joining a relaxed and capable group of senior engineers, with the strength and support of an international company behind you. Their benefits package is excellent and salaries extremely competitive. Perks include profit sharing, as well as pension and healthcare.
