Systems Applications Engineer (26045)
As the Systems Applications Engineer there is opportunity to get involved in the complete system, however your core skill will most likely be mechanical design. You will be involved with the company's customers at the early design phases of their bespoke systems and create effective prototype designs for their products.
A prototype will start off with some analysis and simulation work to help you form a design concept. Once you have worked out the detailed design you will create a physical prototype. Of course you may need to go round the loop more than once. It needs to be a working prototype so you will provide the electronics and software for it.
You will possess a good technical degree from a respected university and be familiar with a range of technologies including:
- Electro-mechanical-fluidic system design
- Mechanical design using Solidworks or a similar tool
- Rapid prototyping using 3D printing, machining and other methods
- Analogue and digital, board-level electronics design and debug (e.g. Raspberry PI or Arduino)
- Software development to run demonstrators and test equipment
Examples already exist for the software and electronics aspects of this role, so you can treat those as reference designs to assist you with your prototypes. The position gives you opportunities to venture into flow and gas sensing utilising analytical methods, modelling and simulation for fluid dynamics. Obviously previous experience of these will be beneficial. You will also build up knowledge of silicon / MEMS technology and semiconductor / MEMS packaging for sensors.
A supportive start-up culture awaits you in an exciting and challenging role. It's a customer facing role, assisting them with evaluations and designs incorporating these sensors.
