Developing new business opportunities for engineering services

This company is an established provider of research and development services centred around electronics and sensor technologies. They work for both public and private sector clients and across a range of application areas, with a substantial proportion of their work geared towards defensive capabilities and threat identification.

In this role you will become expert on the defence industry and the factors and trends affecting it, allowing you to develop a winning marketing strategy. You will identify new business opportunities through industry networking events, shows, existing contacts, and by directly contacting new prospects. You will work in collaboration with the engineering team to develop proposals, which you will then negotiate through to the closure stage, potentially enlisting external partners in order to take on large projects. You will also help support client management with the initial set-up of projects.

Requirements:

  • A solid academic background with a 1st or 2.1 in a relevant STEM subject from a well-respected university
  • Proven aptitude in business development and sales, specifically in selling expertise and services rather than products
  • A strong technical background in electronics, software, mechanical design or product development so that you can hold your own in discussions with clients – prior experience within the defence industry is desirable but not essential
  • Full right to work in the UK is essential as is eligibility to obtain a UK Security Clearance
