At times still a hands-on role controlling scientific instrumentation

This company working on automated systems requires someone to lead their software development. This will involve creating requirements, functional and interface specifications; implementation of architecture and delivery of software/applications; total integration of the software onto hardware modules and testing. You will need to work with multiple projects at the same time and understand different levels of code/architectures, from hardware interface code, APIs, databases all the way to user interface (web) code.

Your breadth of software knowledge will be fully utilised on this role, providing guidance to the team in numerous areas, including selection of operating systems, language, hardware interfaces, network protocols and C# web interfaces. Ideally you will have previously either worked on embedded systems or have some knowledge about how electronics is controlled. There are also ASP.NET web interfaces to create.

As a Software Development Manager you will have the confidence and experience to architect new platforms. You will be hands-on at times, stepping into areas where the team isn't so strong. You are likely to have a varied project background and good technical degree from a top university. Your skills will include:

  • Thorough understanding of C#, in a complex application
  • Experience of web technology and the best way to utilise it
  • Sufficient exposure to hardware interfaces or instrument control via software
  • Able to drive source control and software build processes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other teams across various disciplines
  • A good mentor and coach of software teams
  • A practical outlook and problem solver

This position offers challenging work and a friendly, fun and dynamic working environment. Due to working close to hardware it is anticipated you will need to be primarily in the Cambridgeshire office but they are open to hybrid working when the projects allow.
