Outstanding Mathematician

Summary: Bright maths PhD graduates or post-docs are sought by a rapidly-growing London-based research and modelling centre.

Our client is seeking the brightest and best to join their world-class team of mathematical modellers, analysts and developers. Candidates must have an outstanding academic background from one of the top universities in the world. A first-class degree in mathematics, or perhaps a numerical aspect of physics or engineering, will have been a foundation for a challenging PhD project and perhaps even a post-doc.

The company develops complex mathematical models and algorithms used to analyse and recognise patterns in large data sets, leading to successful prediction of future trends. The models are applied to complex and often dirty data across finance and investment sectors, utilising techniques such as time series analysis, probability theory or regression analysis.

To be a successful candidate, you will have to show an excellent aptitude for solving problems, and an inquisitive mind in applying mathematical explanations to complex real-world problems. Experience with OO software development (C++ / C# / Java) would be useful, but not a deal breaker if you are able to explain your ideas in a structured manner that can be easily implemented in an algorithm and have had some exposure to coding. Experience in financial sectors is, similarly, not required, but candidates must show an interest in the mathematics applied to this complex area and a motivation to work on research relating to this.

Our client offers a relaxed and motivating environment, with almost an academic research feel to the workplace. Employees can expect to pursue their own research interests and ideas that, if successful, can bring extraordinary financial rewards on top of an already first-rate remuneration package. Based in central London, they offer flexible “9 to 5” working hours, and excellent benefits and amenities in a modern office. If this sounds like the opportunity for you, and you really are the proverbial ‘best of the best’, don’t hesitate to apply now!
