Design and build of complex optical systems for industry

A top Cambridge company providing innovative science and engineering solutions is seeking a Physicist to work with specialist colleagues on a broad range of projects, including the design and development of custom optical systems. The projects cover a wide range of applications from remote sensing using LIDAR to blood perfusion measurement.

As a hands-on Physicist, you will use your creative abilities and deep technical knowledge to design novel solutions to tricky problems. The wide range of projects adds to the verve and enjoyment of this Physicist role, together with the satisfaction of working on systems that lead from concept and design to real, manufactured products.

The requirements for this role are:

  • A PhD or Master’s degree in Physics from a well-ranked university, ideally with significant optics content
  • Experience working at the cutting edge of development in photonics or laser optics – this could be in an industrial or academic setting
  • Experience with modelling complex optical systems
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and come up with innovative solutions to complex questions
