A unique opening for a bright developer seeking an unconventional role

We are seeking a bright and resourceful Software Engineer for this out-of-the-ordinary role in which you would have develop a portfolio of related but standalone applications.

You would be joining a small tight-knit developing world-leading maritime safety technology. The role offers ample variety and creative control of your work. Tasks will typically involve collecting data, refining and implementing algorithms, user interfaces and back end services for complex data processing. You would also perform demonstrations, and prepare and present conference papers. There is scope for both UK-wide, and (voluntary) international travel.

Our client is a well-established organisation developing technology that underpins a vital public service. They have a relaxed office environment with an excellent work-life balance and mix of benefits including a superb pension scheme with up to 20% employer contribution. Their office locality is very different from that of the typical high-tech organisation; it is conveniently close to the local station and amenities as well as its own particular attractions.

You will need the following skills and experience:

  • A 2:1 or above degree in Electronics, Computer Science or similarly applicable subject from a well-recognised university
  • Commercial software development experience or very substantial hobby or open source project experience. You will need solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile principles
  • Excellent coding skills in C# and Python. An understanding of Java, C++, databases, REST API, and web development skills would be a bonus but not essential
  • Strong communication skills, and collaborative hands-on approach
