Mathematical modelling consultancy for chemical engineering projects

This multinational company are looking for a Chemical Engineering Modeller to join their technical team in Cambridge. In this role, they would provide computational solutions relating to chemical engineering and physical chemistry problems for customers in industry and academia. Further responsibilities would include providing technical training and demonstrations, overseeing workshops for computational modelling and developing initial proof-of-principle prototyping models.

Requirements:

  • 1st or 2.1 degree in chemical engineering, physics or mathematics AND either a Master's or PhD in a relevant subject area.
  • Strong computational modelling experience through project work using MATLAB, Octave or a similar mathematical modelling tool.
  • Excellent understanding of chemical engineering principles and the maths behind areas such as chemical thermodynamics, mass transportation by diffusion and convection, phase equilibria, and chemical kinetics. Further exposure to models behind electrochemical devices such as fuel cells and batteries would be desirable.
  • Strong communication skills which can be evidenced through technical presentations or demonstrations.

The role is a combination of technical understanding and people-facing activities. It is open to a recently graduated Master's or PhD as well as more experienced maths modellers / engineers. Interested applicants must have full rights to work in the UK without restriction - no company sponsorship is available.

The company looks to support careers and will provide initial training. Applicants must have the required engineering / maths background to be considered. On offer is a competitive remunerations package. Some travel would be expected as part of this role (under usual circumstances) although the role would mostly be sited at their offices in Cambridge. Some hybrid working is possible.
