Highly influential leadership position

This is an important position for a successful and rapidly growing modelling company, intent on using data science to provide actionable recommendations to businesses. Our client provides SaaS to companies helping them to assess the impact of factors such as climate change, geopolitical upheavals and supply chain issues on their success, as well as helping them prepare their business for a carbon net zero future. Due to their continued growth, they now seek a talented modeller with broad commercial experience to lead their modelling teams.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the role will involve leading, steering and managing highly skilled teams of experienced modellers who are specialists in their fields. You will be conceptualising and innovating approaches to solving analytics problems. You will explore new areas of research, possibly including: biodiversity and natural capital risk, for TNFD reporting; carbon accounting and lifecycle emissions ratings, as well as enterprise risk management and emerging threats.

You may come from a finance background involving catastrophe and risk modelling or have previous experience as a climate modeller. Either way, you will have a deep understanding of the mathematics involved, including Bayesian statistics, macro-economic modelling and risk analytics. The group tend to model using either Python or Excel VBA so good skills in one or both will be expected, as will a minimum of a Master’s degree or ideally a PhD in a technical subject. You will also need to have full right to work in the UK without time limit or sponsorship to be considered for this role.

In depth expertise in two or more of the following areas will be necessary:

  • Economics of climate change risk and adaptation, particularly applications of statistical analysis, Bayesian probability, machine learning and artificial intelligence, interest in correlation and simulation of probabilistic outcomes.
  • Natural catastrophe modelling, with climate expertise and engineering applications into extreme tail risk analytics of low probability-high impact simulation, adapting these techniques to economics and the financial performance of individual companies.
  • Corporate finance and macro-economic modelling, valuation and investment analytics, trading algorithms.
  • Excellent people management skills combined with the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas and arguments.

Additional experience of running complex model and analytical development projects with a large team of analysts, data scientists and modelers would be highly desirable.

The company has a flexible approach to working schedules and is happy to offer hybrid working or part-time working (4 day week) to strong candidates. They are based in the centre of Cambridge in airy, modern comfortable offices. They offer a very competitive salary, bonus and share options.

Key words: Cambridge, Risk, Climate Modelling, Catastrophe Modelling, Quant, Finance, Hybrid Working, Leadership, Senior Management.
