Technical scientific problem-solving and prototyping for physics / biology applications

This growing Cambridge company are recruiting a Multidisciplinary Applications Scientist to join their team. In this role you will deliver collaborative projects with external partners to develop a physics-hardware platform used in biological applications. Key responsibilities include: testing, breadboarding and prototyping; technical troubleshooting and system optimisations; developing assays in conjunction with the Biology team; performing verification and validation tests; liaising with external partners and customers; travelling to key customer sites to support partner projects.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Physics (or similar) with exposure to experimental biology (cell or molecular). A Master’s in biophysics, applied biology or biochemistry would be advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with two or the following: (1) Optics, (2) Microfluidics, (3) Assay development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Communications skills should include presentations and report writing.

Travel is expected for this role and would account up to 20% of the role. This can be within the UK and overseas. Further, there is a strong preference that applicants have a valid UK driver’s licence.
