Graduate Aerospace Engineer (26882)
We are seeking an academically brilliant aerospace graduate to join a specialised mathematical modelling team based on the south coast, and working on hard-to-model problems for a variety of applications.
In this role, you would carry out mathematical modelling of high energy phenomena using finite element or finite difference codes to predict the behaviour of structures and materials subjected to extreme temperatures and pressures that are difficult to reproduce experimentally. As modelling scenarios can be complex and results can be highly sensitive to initial conditions, you will need excellent intuition underpinned by a strong understanding of materials properties, mechanics, and thermodynamics in order to gauge whether predictions are realistic.
You will need:
- A 1st class degree in Aerospace Engineering or a closely allied subject from a leading university, and very strong A-level or baccalaureate grades ( including ‘A’ grades in Maths and Physics). A master’s or PhD would be welcome but not essential
- An excellent understanding of materials properties, thermodynamics, and aerodynamics / fluid dynamics. An understanding of shock wave physics or turbulent flow would be an advantage
- Must be a British national with eligibility to get UK security clearance
- Not essential, but coding skills in C++ or Fortran would be advantageous
