Modern approachable web frameworks and large datasets

Developers and aspiring developers may appreciate the use of practical, approachable modern programming languages and development tools in this role. You’ll be working on interactive systems – not just websites – to help a company spot problems with agents around the globe based on real-time data.

You will have:

  • A degree in computing; or an engineering, scientific or mathematical degree and equivalent understanding of good computing practice
  • Web development skills in a language such as Python, Node (JavaScript), PHP, or similar, and a framework such as Flask, Django, Express or Laravel – and an open mind towards using any of these in future projects
  • An understanding of object-oriented principles, and how to build high quality, stable and secure web applications
  • An understanding of web APIs and their design and use
  • An appreciation for working with and processing moderately large datasets (high GB to TB) – perhaps from a scientific context – and some skill with SQL and relational databases

An asset would be any further experience of (for instance) containers such as Docker, and microservice design.

The company offers a competitive benefits package which includes healthcare and a merit-based bonus scheme. You’ll work from their Cambridge office, with the option of up to 2 days per week at home after settling in. Expenses paid travel to popular global cities is an option for candidates interested in working overseas some of the time. Existing UK work permission is required.
