Secure your 2024 career with this statistical modelling consultancy

Are you completing university courses or industry projects, and are looking for a role to start in summer 2024? Do you want to use your strong mathematics background in a consultancy where you will develop statistical models as well as travel overseas to meet clients and present your work? Do you feel traditional finance companies just won’t have the variety of work you’re looking for and so you’re keen to seek other opportunities?

This Cambridge-based boutique consultancy are looking for summer 2024 starters to join them. They are a small group of consultants and analysts who work collaboratively in small teams (1-5 people) on technical projects involving financial parameters. Their key expertise is in forecasting based on incomplete data sets within different countries and therefore local environments. Their clients can be large multinational companies or government institutes.

The company supports careers, and from day one, you get to work on real projects. You would be part of presentation teams, accompany senior team members on trips and meetings with clients. You’ll get to work on the models and help build new versions befitting the current project. You’ll be mentored and developed to become a consultant with them. There is a route for success including promotion to being a partner with them.

Requirements:

  • Strong maths background. This will be formalised through strong academic achievement (A* grades in Maths, Further Maths and Physics at A-level, followed by a high 2.1 or 1st Class degree in Maths or Theoretical Physics from a top ranked university (top 10 within the UK, or top 150 worldwide)).
  • Demonstrable Master’s or PhD project involving stochastics, Bayesian theory or statistical inference. This could be within a group or individual project work. Please evidence your contributions in relevant modelling. Projects with relevance for real-world industry / financial applications would be highly desirable.
  • Technical skills should include the use of spreadsheets, and experience with trends and extrapolation of data.
  • Secondary European language skills (ideally fluency but minimally at conversational level) in Spanish, German, Portuguese or French would be desirable.

Day-to-day work would be based at their offices in Cambridge. Worldwide travel would be expected and could be up to 20% of your time (day trips if in Europe, longer trips if further afield). Interested applicants must be open to travel.

This is an excellent opportunity to start your career within a consultancy working on professional services. On offer is an excellent starting salary with a clear path for progression.
